Vineyards: The wine comes from Los Lingues Estate. The soil presents a matrix of rocks in different states of decomposition, mainly as fragmented alterites, which give the balance sought between vigour, productivity and quality. Mineral notes are expressed because of the balanced extraction through the deep roots.
Vinification: At optimum ripeness, the grapes are hand-picked in small boxes and brought to the cellar for careful sorting. Vinification is conducted in small tanks to get the best extraction of aromas, flavors and silky tannins. After fermentation, the Koyle Royale Carmenere is aged in French oak barrels for eighteen months, with no filtration.
Terroir: Well-drained soils have a clay texture with volcanic rocks and colluvial stones that deliver unique minerals giving the right balance to
the Royale line. Both are key factors of optimal terroir for the production of high quality red wines
Training system: Double Guyot.
Tasting Notes: Pretty tobacco and berry character with crushed stone and dried tea undertones. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now.
James Suckling (vintage 2015)
Woodsy spicy black-fruit aromas include notes of balsam wood. This is deep and layered but not too heavy; flavors of chocolaty oak, peppercorn and blackberry finish with a rich helping of oak-based mocha and coffee. Drink through 2020.
